CALL FOR PROPOSALS: 2016 Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation Grants

The mission of the Edward Mallinckrodt, Jr. Foundation (EMJF) is to support early stage, highly promising investigators (in the first to fourth year of a tenure-track position) engaged in basic biomedical research that has the potential to advance the understanding, diagnosis or treatment of disease.

EMJF grants provide $60,000 per year for a period of up to three years.  The grants are not renewable and are designed specifically to provide tenure track faculty members who hold M.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees, start-up support to move the project forward to the point where R01 or other independent funding can be obtained.

Since UC Irvine is permitted to forward only one nomination for this award competition (a change from previous years when we could nominate two), therefore interested applicants are asked to submit a preliminary application via the UCI Review system by Friday, June 17, 2016 with the following information:

  • Brief proposal (up to three pages),
  • Preliminary budget,
  • NIH Style  Bio-sketch (as required by EMJF),
  • Support letter from the Dean (or the equivalent in units without a Dean).

If necessary an ad hoc committee will convene to review internal applications. The selected campus nominees will be notified in time to submit an application by the Foundation’s deadline of August 1, 2016.

More information about this funding opportunity may be found at http://www.emallinckrodtfoundation.org/Guidelines.html.  Questions about our internal campus review process may be directed to Greg Ruth at greg.ruth@uci.edu or x4-0372.
