Dear Colleagues,
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) salary limitation notice issued March 17, 2017 increases the salary limitation on direct salary for individuals under NIH grant and cooperative agreement awards. This change is also applicable to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2016, restricts the amount of direct salary to Executive Level II of the Federal Executive pay scale. The Executive Level II salary was previously set at $185,100, and increased to $187,000 effective January 8, 2017.
For UCI, this increase becomes effective for pay periods beginning February 1, 2017.
For all federals awards subject to this increase, PIs may rebudget to accommodate the current Executive Level II salary level if adequate funds are available. Please note that no additional funds will be awarded by the federal government to cover this increase.
Please see the NIH notice link below for additional information.
