Important Reminder:

Timely Submission of Final Technical Reports and Deliverables to Federal Sponsors

Dear UCI Researcher Community,

Recently, delays in submitting final technical reports to federal government sponsors have had significant consequences for UC Irvine. One Principal Investigator’s failure to adhere to the prescribed reporting deadlines resulted in UC Irvine being listed on SAM.gov’s non-compliance list, a list monitored by all federal agencies, and significant delays in NIH and Department of Defense awards.

The Chronicle of Higher Education recently published an article that highlights how federal agencies withheld awards to UC San Diego because a Principal Investigator failed to submit final reports:

It is imperative that all Principal Investigators (PIs) understand that submitting required final technical reports and other deliverables in a timely manner is critically important to their research programs and to UCI’s reputation with federal sponsors. Although federal agencies mandate that final technical, invention, and equipment reports be submitted within 90 to 120 days of the project end date, we strongly advise submitting final technical reports and other deliverables no later than 90 days after the project end date to ensure compliance.

Sponsors are increasingly enforcing policies regarding delinquent reports and other deliverables associated with awards. Failure to submit final technical reports and other deliverables promptly may lead to severe consequences, including delays in receiving new awards to UCI and suspension of a PI’s proposal submission privileges. Accordingly, we sincerely urge all PIs to make timely submission of final technical reports and deliverables to sponsors a top priority.

Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated, and it will contribute to the continued success of our research endeavors at UCI.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Pramod Khargonekar, Ph.D.
