New Compliance & Conflict of Interest for Researchers Briefing (COIR Training)

Dear Colleagues:

On January 25, 2017, the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) will be releasing an updated Compliance & Conflict of Interest for Researchers Briefing (2017 Briefing) through the UC Learning Center (UCLC). UCI researchers will receive an email from the UCLC with a link to the 2017 Briefing, which is mandatory, takes about 30 minutes to complete, and satisfies two requirements:

The University of California Statement of Ethical Values and Standards of Ethical Conduct and conflict of interest (COI) regulations when accepting extramural research funds training – required by UCOP; and

The Public Health Service (PHS)/National Institutes of Health Conflict of Interest training.

Researchers who completed the 2012 version of the Briefing after January 1, 2016 and before January 20, 2017 are not required to take the 2017 Briefing. All other researchers are required to complete the 2017 Briefing. However, if a researcher completed the 2012 Briefing no more than four years ago, the Office of Research will accept it to satisfy the PHS training requirement for the purpose of releasing PHS award funds. For example, if Researcher A completed the 2012 Briefing on January 7, 2017, then OR will accept that training through January 6, 2012. However, if Researcher B completed the 2012 Briefing on March 1, 2013, then OR will accept it through February 28, 2017.

Thank you for your cooperation in meeting this requirement. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Nadia Wong, COI Administrator, at nadiaw@uci.edu or at x40012.
