Reminder about Research Continuity Plans & Research Animals

This is a reminder that Lead Researchers (LRs)/Principal Investigators (PIs) are responsible for developing, implementing, activating, and updating research continuity plans to ensure animal care and welfare in accordance with approved IACUC protocols when non-standard circumstances exist. Research continuity plans should include postponing research activities when staffing shortages create unsafe conditions for researchers and/or animals. When activating research continuity plans, LRs/PIs are responsible for ensuring that backup systems and animal monitoring procedures are in place and operating appropriately. This is particularly important for research labs that care for their own animals and if additional animal care support is needed, please contact ULAR. Research animal care and welfare is always paramount, but especially when research continuity plans are activated.  Therefore, please report any concerns regarding animal welfare to the IACUC.
