Heightened Animal Rights Activities This Month

World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week (also know as World Week for Animals in Laboratories) occurs this year from Saturday April 20 through Sunday April 28, 2012. Various so-called “animal rights” groups organize protests and other activities at research institutions during this time each year.

The California Biomedical Research Association (CBRA) monitors the activities of animal-rights groups and keeps us informed about their planned activities; so far, protests are planned at UCLA on April 25 and in San Diego on April 26.   There is currently no information available regarding planned activities aimed directly at UCI, but all members of our research community are encouraged to exercise extra vigilance during this time.

Security guidelines have been provided by the Office of Research at ULAR Policies and Guidelines – click on “Animal Facility Security.”   Please report any suspicious activities to UCI Police or UCIMC Security at the numbers listed below.
