The Office of Research is pleased to announce an update to Kuali Research (KR) Proposal Development (PD) launching February 25, 2026.
Updated Certification Language
The certification language in KR PD has remained largely unchanged for years. Due to system limitations, identical certification language was previously applied at all approval levels. However, University of California guidelines in Section 10-340 of the UC Contracts and Grants Manual (C&G Manual) establish that Department Chairs, Directors, or Deans are accountable for Principal Investigator (PI) performance within their units. While Sponsored Projects initially applied uniform certification language across all levels due to overlapping responsibilities, we now recognize that Department Chair, Director, or Dean certifications should be limited to C&G Manual requirements.
In collaboration with other Office of Research units, Sponsored Projects has created a new certification section specifically for Department Chairs, Directors, or Deans. Under this revised approach, PIs will certify to their role-specific requirements, while Department Chairs, Directors, or Deans will certify only to Section 10-340 responsibilities and compliance with applicable policies and regulations, aligning with practices at other UC campuses.
