Upcoming Changes to Public Access Policy Reporting Requirements and
Related NIH Efforts to Enhance Compliance

Important Points: In Spring, 2013, NIH will delay processing of
non-competing continuation awards if publications arising from that
award are not in compliance with the NIH public access policy (Refer to
the Office of Research Zotmail announcement, “Requirement to Post
Publications to PubMed Central”, dated November 5th). This change will
take effect in tandem with NIH requiring the use of the Research
Performance Progress Report (RPPRs) for all Streamlined Non-competing
Award Process (SNAP) and Fellowship awards in the Spring of 2012 (Please
refer to NIH NOT-OD-12-142
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-12-142.html ).

To assist with this requirement, NIH has made changes to the My NCBI
tools to improve workflow and communication between PI’s and non-PI
authors and to provide an easier way to track compliance of all papers
arising from their awards (See
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/techbull/ja12/ja12_myncbi_new_features.html
for details).

Please refer to the Guide Notice
http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-12-160.html
for details regarding procedural changes, reminders, and resources for
PI’s as a result of this requirement.
