NIH Guide Notice Updates

Dear Colleagues: 

Below are summaries of a recent NIH Guide notices. Please review the notices and forward it to faculty, researchers and staff, as appropriate. Questions regarding these notices should be directed to your Contract and Grant Officer.

AHRQ will begin providing an allowance for childcare costs to eligible recipients of new and continuation AHRQ NRSA fellowships (F32s) awarded after October 1, 2021. The NRSA childcare costs allowance will apply to full-time AHRQ-NRSA-supported fellowship positions. Each fellow is eligible to receive $2,500 per budget period for costs for childcare provided by a licensed childcare provider. For households where both parents are recipients of an AHRQ NRSA fellowship award, each parent is eligible to receive $2,500 for childcare, via their own AHRQ award. Please refer to the guide notice for additional information.
Effective October 1, 2021, AHRQ will begin providing an allowance for childcare costs for each full-time predoctoral or postdoctoral NRSA trainee appointment slot on an AHRQ T32 institutional training program grant at the time a new, renewal, or continuation award is made. The NRSA childcare costs allowance will apply to each full-time predoctoral or postdoctoral AHRQ-NRSA-supported institutional research training award appointment. Each full-time predoctoral or postdoctoral AHRQ-NRSA appointed trainee is eligible to receive $2,500 per budget period for childcare costs provided by a licensed childcare provider. For households where both parents are eligible for full-time predoctoral or postdoctoral AHRQ-NRSA trainees, each parent is eligible to receive $2,500 via the NRSA award to which they are appointed. Please refer to the guide notice for additional information.

This Notice extends the special exception for post-submission material. For applications submitted for the January 2023 Council rounds (beginning with applications submitted for the May 25, 2022 due date), the NIH, AHRQ, and NIOSH will accept a one-page update with preliminary data as post-submission materials for applications submitted under all activity codes, ONLY if the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) used for submission allowed preliminary data in the application. One page of preliminary data will be accepted for single component applications or for each component of a multi-component application. Please refer to the guide notice for additional information.
