Dear Colleagues:
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has recently tightened its requirements for foreign justification in grant applications. All NIH applications that include a Foreign Component must include a mandated Foreign Justification document. Applications with a Foreign Component that do not include this document will be considered incomplete and withdrawn by NIH without further review. More information about what constitutes a Foreign Component can be found in the attached document.
If you are working on an NIH application with Foreign Components, please ensure that you upload the necessary Foreign Justification document to the “Other Attachments” section of your application.
For detailed information on what is required in the Foreign Justification document, please refer to page 63 of the NIH application guide: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/how-to-apply-application-guide/forms-i/general-forms-i.pdf.
For further assistance or questions, please contact the Federal Officer in Sponsored Projects assigned to your unit. This contact can be found here: https://research.uci.edu/about-or/contact/staff-by-dept-assignment/.
