New Resource for Individuals Considering an Engagement/Activity with an External Entity
When participating in an engagement with an external entity that does not involve UCI as a party, it is important to remember your UC obligations and ensure the external entity recognizes those obligations. Examples include but are not limited to:
- Consulting for an external entity
- Accepting a position/title with an external entity (ex. scientific advisor, member of the board of directors, etc.)
- Founding or co-founding a company
To help navigate these engagements, the Office of Research has created the guidance document, Statement of UCI Employee Obligations related to External Entities, which outlines some key obligations for UCI employees. We encourage UCI employees to use this statement as a reference and consider sharing it with the external entity/collaborator to avoid misunderstandings, conflicts, and/or violations. Please visit the Research Security & International Engagement (RSIE) website at https://research.uci.edu/rsie/ for more information.
If you have questions or concerns, please direct them to or-rsie@uci.edu.
