New Ethics and Compliance Briefing for Researchers (ECBR) Training released on October 4th

The UC Office of the President recently notified campuses that they will release the new version of the Ethics and Compliance training on October 4th.  This training replaces the previous version called “Compliance & Conflict of Interest for Researchers Briefing (COIR)” and satisfies two mandatory training requirements:

  • Ethics and Compliance Briefing, required for all UC employees including faculty and staff.
  • Public Health Service (PHS) Financial Conflict of Interest (FCOI) training, required of all PHS-funded research (NIH is part of PHS) and research funded by any sponsor that has adopted the PHS FCOI requirements.

UC now requires that researchers complete the ECBR training every two years due to the federal government’s heightened focus on the issues covered by the training, especially as they relate to undue foreign influence.

Researchers currently taking the COIR training should complete it before 5:00 PM on October 1st to satisfy the requirement.  After October 1st, all researchers with incomplete COIR training must complete the ECBR training, which will be available on October 4th.  Researchers who completed the COIR training more than two years ago must complete the ECBR training.  They will receive an email notification from UCLC, and they must complete the new training before UCI may release their award.  All researchers who have not completed the COIR training within the last two years must complete the ECBR training within 90 days of October 4, 2021.
