Subject: Requirement to Submit Proposals/Receive Awards through the University

Dear Colleagues:

The Office of Research recently developed campus guidelines implementing the UC policy on the requirement to submit proposals and to receive awards through the University. These guidelines supplant the policy implementation memo issued in 1995 by then-Vice Chancellor for Research Wan. The guidelines:

  • Clarify the applicability of the policy
  • Clarify when a proposal or award is exempt from the policy
  • Define key terms used in the guidelines
  • Clarify the process for requesting a policy exception

The revised guidelines can be found in the Sponsored Projects section of the Research Policy Library.
