The Region VI Education and Professional Development Committee (EPDC) is proud to announce our next lunchtime learning, informational session on how to obtain managerial buy in for conference attendance. We have NCURA’s Annual Meeting in August as well as the Region VI/VI meeting in September in Albuquerque, NM. Our speakers will provide their experiences and recommendations on what is necessary when requesting permission and funds to attend a professional development conference.

 

Join us on May 31, 2024, to hear our past Region VI and Region VII (now in Region VI) chairs Jennifer Cory and David Scarbeary-Simmons talk about managerial buy in.

 

Jennifer Cory, MA, CRA is the Director of Strategy and Operations at the Center for Definitive and Curative Medicine at Stanford University and our past Region VI chair. In her 20+ years of academic and research administration experience, she has worked in a foreign university, been an institutional signing official handling pre-award and compliance, managed a clinical department, and has participated in various University committees and focus groups that aim to improve research administration processes. She has been presenting nationally and teaching for 15+ years, including in the role of traveling faculty for NCURA, has served on numerous Program Committees, and is the Co-Chair of Region VI/VII Lead Me Mentoring Program.

 

David Scarbeary-Simmons, is Senior Director, Sponsored Research Administration at Kaiser Foundation Research Institute. David has been in research administration since 2015 and worked in higher education for over 13 years before moving into his current role. David has been an active member of NCURA for several years and has been a regular workshop and session presenter at many NCURA conferences both at the regional and national levels. His presentations have primarily been focused on post-award from a central perspective as well as topics that address training, retention, and employee development. David is past Chair of NCURA Region VII, has previously served as mentor for the NCURA LeadMe program for several years, and is on the Traveling Workshop Faculty – Level I Fundamentals.
