Human Stem Cell Research Oversight (hSCRO)

Upcoming: hSCRO Data Migration and NEW DRAFT Protocol Narrative

July 3, 2025

Huron hSCRO will launch on September 15, 2025, prior to the beginning of Fall 2025 Quarter.

Data Migration:

In order to transition to Huron hSCRO, the HRP must migrate current data in Kuali Research Protocols (KRP).

Here is what will migrate:

  •  hSCRO approved protocols
  •  hSCRO approved protocol attachments (latest versions only)
  • A PDF of the entire hSCRO approved protocol
  • Important!! Please note that unsubmitted drafts and submitted items in KRP that remain unapproved by the hSCRO by August 4, 2025 will be discarded.

When a researcher’s protocol migrates from KRP to the Huron hSCRO SmartForm, not all data fields will be a perfect match. The Huron hSCRO SmartForm is condensed.  Only essential study information will be housed in the Huron hSCRO SmartForm. Information will include; basic study information (e.g., title of study, summary of research, department or lead unit and Principal Investigator (PI) eligibility), study funding sources, stem cell summary (type of cell lines involved in the study and justification of their use, and study related attachments (e.g., consent forms, provenance documents, cell line tables, and other supporting documents)).

UCI hSCRO will maintain complete data from KRP through a combination of self-service Cognos reports and FileNet. Researchers should also maintain their own research records.

Protocol Narratives:

The Huron hSCRO SmartForm contains basic information. Details will reside in a Word document or Protocol Narrative, similar to what was used prior to KRP. This attachment is to be uploaded into the Huron hSCRO system as a part of the hSCRO protocol submission.

Once Huron hSCRO launches, at the next transaction, researchers will need to complete any errant or incomplete fields within the Huron hSCRO SmartForm and, if any protocol changes are proposed, append a completed Protocol Narrative as part of an amendment application. Researchers can get started by completing the Protocol Narrative in advance. Below is the Draft hSCRO Protocol Narrative template.

We expect to post final versions of the following by early August 2025.
