CALL FOR PROPOSALS: Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program

The Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Awards Program supports the research and teaching careers of talented young faculty in the chemical sciences. The program provides discretionary funding to faculty at an early stage in their careers in the form of an unrestricted research grant of $75,000. Each $75,000 award includes $7,500 for the recipient’s department to cover expenses associated with research and education. Defrayal of academic-year salary is not permitted.

Criteria for selection include an independent body of scholarship attained within the first five years of their appointment as independent researchers, and a demonstrated commitment to education, signaling the promise of continuing outstanding contributions to both research and teaching.

Nominees must hold a full-time tenure-track academic appointment, and are normally expected to have been appointed no earlier than mid-year 2012. According to the Foundation, competitive nominees from past competitions have generally been in at least their third year.

The campus may submit only one nomination; therefore interested applicants (or those wishing to nominate others) should submit the following via the UCI Review application portal by October 20, 2017:
• Nomination letter, endorsed by the nominee’s department chair,
• Brief curriculum vita (up to 3 pages) including an abbreviated list of publications in which independent contributions are identified,
• Brief description of the nominee’s future plans for research and teaching, and
• One-page budget proposal describing how the funds would be used for the advancement of the nominee’s research and teaching plans.

If necessary, an ad hoc committee will convene to review the internal applications.

The complete guidelines are available online, at http://www.dreyfus.org/awards/camille_dreyfus_teacher_award.shtml. Questions about our internal campus review process and the UCI Review application portal may be directed to Greg Ruth at greg.ruth@uci.edu or x4-0372.
