2019 DHHS Salary Cap Increase

Dear Colleagues,

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) salary limitation notice NOT-OD-19-099 issued April 17, 2019 increases the salary limitation on direct salary for individuals under NIH awards.  This change is also applicable to the *Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

The Department of Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Act, 2019, restricts the amount of direct salary to Executive Level II of the Federal Executive pay scale.  The Executive Level II salary was previously set at $189,600, and increased to $192,300 effective January 6, 2019.

For all federals awards subject to this increase, PIs may rebudget to accommodate the current Executive Level II salary level if adequate funds are available. Please note that no additional funds will be awarded by the federal government to cover this increase.
